Electric Truck Maker Eyes AZ for BatteryCell Plant

In Recent years, a few electric battery facilities have already made the Valley home, Daimler Truck, the German company that makes electric big rigs for the U.S might be next.

Daimler with it’s partners Cummins and Paccar, said they expect to invest $2 billion to $3 billion into the Accelera joint venture, which will supply cells for electric commercial vehicles and industrial applications.

Daimler Truck already has a home in Goodyear with a parts distribution center in Goodyear.

When asked by the Phoenix Buss Journal, Jon Mills, a spokesman for Cummins stated that they are “considering anywhere in the U.S.” for the planned 21-gigawatt battery factory. “We have not selected a site but expect to do so within the next six months,” Mills said.

The other electric battery facilities that call the Valley in Arizona home are;


LG Energy Solutions, a South Korean battery giant, that is planning a 1.4 million-square-foot battery plant in Queen Creek that’s expected to create 4,000 jobs.
KORE Power is planning to construct a 2 million-square-foot KOREPlex in Buckeye that will house several production lines to manufacture batteries for EV and energy storage systems in the U.S. This plan is expected to create 1,250 job
American Battery Factory has selected Tucson to house their corporate headquarters and planned 2 million square foot gigafactory, which will become the largest in the country. The company will produce lithium iron phosphate battery cells at the factory.

Nikola Motor Co., a hydrogen-electric truck company, has headquarters in Phoenix where it show off its vehicles, designs and test new features and designs, and manufacture limited production runs.
According to a recent report from the national advocacy group E2 (Environmental Entrepreneurs), Arizona has ranked No. 9 among states for the largest number of clean energy projects since the Inflation Reduction Act passed in 2022.

Arizona also ranked number 7 for total estimated project investment, accounting for $5.9 billion and 2,280 new jobs.

This is great news for people seeking employment in these sectors. It’s not surprising to see why Arizona’s unemployment rate is at 3.6% compared to the 3.5% for the nation
